For many clients, laser hair removal takes approximately 8–12 sessions, although the number of treatments needed varies from person to person.
You may have seen clinics advertise claims such as, “With our laser, you’ll only need six sessions!” But what happens when those six sessions are finished and you’re still returning for regular “touch-ups” scheduled at roughly the same intervals as your previous treatments?
At Revive Laser, we believe it’s better to set realistic expectations. Even when every treatment is performed effectively with appropriate settings, quality equipment, and a trained technician, needing more than six laser hair removal sessions can be completely normal.
To understand why, it helps to understand how laser hair removal works with the natural hair growth cycle.
Why Does Laser Hair Removal Require Multiple Sessions?
At any given time, the hairs on your body are in different stages of the hair growth cycle. Laser hair removal is most effective on hairs that are actively growing and still attached to the hair follicle.
There are three primary stages of the hair growth cycle:
Anagen phase: This is the active growth phase. The hair is growing and attached to the follicle, making it the ideal stage for laser treatment.
Catagen phase: This is a transitional stage. The hair stops actively growing and begins detaching from the follicle as it prepares to shed.
Telogen phase: This is the resting phase. The follicle is not currently producing an actively growing hair and can remain in this phase for months.
The hair you see today represents only some of your total hair follicles. Other follicles are resting and aren’t currently producing visible hair.
Because laser hair removal can effectively target hairs during the active growth phase, a single treatment cannot target every hair follicle in an area at once.
Why Are Laser Hair Removal Sessions Spaced Apart?
Laser hair removal sessions are typically spaced approximately four to eight weeks apart, depending on the area being treated.
Waiting between treatments gives additional follicles time to enter the active growth phase, when their hairs can be effectively targeted during a subsequent session.
As you progress through your treatment plan, we’re essentially working through successive hair growth cycles. This is why completing a full series of properly timed treatments is important for achieving long-term hair reduction.
Is 8–12 Laser Hair Removal Sessions Normal?
At Revive Laser, we typically see clients require approximately 8–12 sessions.
However, that is a general range rather than a guarantee.
Some clients may require additional treatments, and needing more than 12 sessions doesn’t necessarily mean that laser hair removal isn’t working.
What Can Affect the Number of Laser Hair Removal Sessions You Need?
Every client’s hair growth is different. Several factors can influence how many sessions are required, including:
- The density of the hair in the treatment area
- Individual hair growth cycles
- Hormonal changes
- The area of the body being treated
- Hair and skin characteristics
- Treatment timing and consistency
- The settings and equipment used during treatment
Clients experiencing hormonal changes or those with particularly dense hair may require additional sessions. Other individual factors can also influence how quickly someone progresses through treatment.
This is why we don’t believe in promising every client the exact same number of treatments.
Why Revive Laser Doesn’t Guarantee You’ll Be Finished in Six Sessions
We can’t guarantee that every client will complete laser hair removal within a predetermined number of sessions because everyone’s hair growth is different.
What we can do is give you our best educated estimate based on your individual circumstances and keep you informed about your progress throughout the process.
At Revive Laser, we focus on whether each treatment is effectively moving you closer to your hair reduction goals rather than promising an arbitrary number of sessions.
Something else that makes Revive Laser unique is that we guarantee our work. We follow up with every laser hair removal client after each treatment to make sure the session was effective and that they’re continuing to progress toward completion.
