You must shower or bath and shave thoroughly within 24 hours prior to your laser treatment. The treatment will be most effective on clean, untanned skin with NO hair growth above the surface.

Do not wax, pluck or use hair removal creams within four weeks prior to the appointment, as the hairs have to be attached to the follicle in order the treatment to work.

The technician will use cold packs and a Cryo air cooling machine to make the procedure more comfortable. You will feel a warm, prickly feeling as the laser delivers the energy into the hair follicles. This sensation is usually very tolerable.

Afterward, your skin may look slightly red and might have small, bumps where the follicles are, which is completely normal. Many clients have no noticeable effects afterward. The redness and bumps will fade over the next few hours. Cold packs and an over-the-counter Cortisone cream can help as well if needed.

Avoid hot showers, hot tubs, saunas, or any sweat on the treated area for 24 hours post-treatment, or until the redness and bumps have completely disappeared.

The hair that was beneath the surface of the skin no longer has a follicle and your body will slowly eject it approx. 2-3 weeks after the treatment. It may look like growing hair, but simply exfoliate or continue shaving until the dead hair has all fallen out.

A good quality, medical grade, well-maintained laser and proper settings should permanently reduce the amount of hair growth.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for cheaper, older, poorly maintained machines and some older IPL’s. Knowing the proper settings is also extremely important to the outcome of the treatments and not all technicians are adequately trained or experienced.

Many areas of the body can absolutely experience permanent hair reduction, but it will always be to varying degrees, depending on how good of a candidate you are. Most clients who have dark hair will eventually reach approximately an 85-95% decrease that is permanent, although some clients may want touch-up treatments from time to time on the handful of hairs left over. The hair will grow in patchy, more fine and thin after each hair removal treatment.

There are some rare instances where the body creates brand new follicles after the have been destroyed, but this is typically due to hormone imbalances and typically occurs only on the chin for women and on the back for men.
